Pod Time, K1LaD supermarket & a special visitor...

Monday morning brought a great deal of anticipation and excitement, in hope of a second Pod time experience. Every week, mid-morning on Mondays, K1 have what we call 'Pod Time', which essentially means all children in K1 can move freely to different classes and other learning areas within K1, to explore and make new friends. Each classroom is assigned a specific focus area for learning; K1LaD, at present, being art.

This week, again on Monday, K1LaD were part of the grand opening of the K1LaD supermarket. Miss Sheila and I spent last Friday after school preparing our home corner so that it would resemble a supermarket. Having included the basics, such as receipts rolls, stock check lists, we now hope the children will develop this area into some even more life-like. It's no 'Cold Storage', but the children seem to love it!

On Tuesday we had a special visitor in for the afternoon- Finley's grandpa. Don, who as a former mathematics teacher, began his teaching career in elementary, so was keen to see what K1 now looks like, particularly from a mathematics perspective. He arrived just at the right time- I was undertaking our daily mathematics carpet session on measure- length and using non-standard units (cubes) to measure differing lengths. The children ended this day with a lovely story.
