Thank you & a bit extra...

A big thank you to all of you who managed to attend last night's 'Meet the Teacher' meeting. I hope you found it helpful and also gave you the opportunity to get to know both the K1 team and parents.

READING

Something I would like to add, which I perhaps did not clearly mention last night, is that next week your children will be able to take home a chosen book from the classroom, to share with you and for you to read to them. This book will not be levelled.
During the next few weeks our aim is to assess each and every child's reading ability, and by week 6, your child will be taking home a chosen class book, a levelled text, and a library book. They may, to begin with, be given a levelled text without any words, depending on how aware your child is of text and their level of comprehension from the pictures in a book. We really do encourage and promote the fact that reading is not just about the text!

Every week, we will change your child's class books (chosen and levelled), and this will be on a specific day of the week, most likely to be a Friday (...I will keep you informed). Your children will also attend the library every week, so library books ideally need to be back in on Mondays. Our library day is a Thursday.

Although we have one specific day for changing class books, this however does not mean your child will be restricted from taking home only one levelled or chosen book a week. In the classroom room we will have an additional "Book change, please" box, where your children can put their book bags if they want to change their books before our set day. We want to encourage children to be free to take and enjoy books as they please, and recognise some children will want far more than just a couple of books.

Any further questions in relation to school and home reading, please come and have a chat with us.

Thank you,

Mrs. Davies
